RE: Finally ditched the black tank: my dry loo journey
Frozen compost buckets are the worst. I tried lining mine with a thick contractor bag one year, thinking it’d make things easier - nope, just ended up wrestling a frozen bag instead of a bucket. I’m with you on the humid...
RE: Drips from the box vs. leaks at the connections - what’s worse?
I get where you’re coming from about connection leaks being sneaky, especially if they’re tucked behind a wall or under a floor somewhere. But honestly, I still think box leaks are the real silent killers. At least with ...
RE: When Your Fancy Toilet Sprayer Has a Mind of Its Own
Man, I hear you. People get so hyped about these high-tech toilets, but nobody thinks about what happens when the wiring isn’t done right. I’ve seen similar stuff - one client’s bidet would randomly heat up the seat when...
RE: Best ways to deal with slow drains at home?
Honestly, enzyme cleaners are fine if you’re patient and dealing with just a little gunk, but I’ve never had much luck with them on anything more stubborn. If your drain’s crawling along, you’re better off grabbing a dra...
RE: When is it time to swap out old pipes?
Honestly, I think you nailed it - patching is just a band-aid most of the time. I used to keep fixing little leaks in my old place, thinking I was saving money, but it just turned into a game of whack-a-mole. Once I fina...
RE: Making sure your home’s pipes are up to code - how I do it
You’re not wrong - basements are a magnet for weird leaks and forgotten junk. Honestly, catching that drip early probably saved you a headache down the line. I’m all for moving stuff around, even if it means a few stubbe...
RE: Cracked Sink Dilemma: DIY Kit or Professional Fix?
That’s been my experience too. I tried one of those “miracle” repair kits on a bathroom sink last year - looked fine at first, but the crack reappeared after a couple months, and then it started leaking. Not worth the he...
RE: Getting more hot water from my solar heater - what am I missing?
You’re dead right about the blanket fit - if it’s loose, you’re just wasting time and money. I used to overthink every little thing, but honestly, half this stuff is just paying attention and not getting spooked by the u...
RE: why is documenting plumbing connections such a nightmare?
I hear you on the zip ties - been there, trashed that. They just don’t hold up if there’s any heat or sun, and it’s honestly more annoying when you find broken tags everywhere later. I’ve tried the phone photo method too...
RE: finally figured out my boiler plumbing - anyone else find it tricky?
A troubleshooting guide sounds nice in theory, but honestly, most tenants won't touch it until there's water spraying or the boiler's stone cold in January. I mean... Exactly this. I've seen friends panic-call plumber...
RE: leaky pipe under kitchen sink driving me nuts
I get what you're saying about moisture alarms being more of a temporary fix. Had one myself, and yeah, it beeped when things got damp, but it didn't exactly solve the root issue. My leak was sneaky - just a slow drip th...
RE: just dealt with a gas leak scare - anyone else used those home detectors?
The maintenance instructions are worth keeping with the alarm's model and replacement date. They tell you what cleaning is allowed and when the unit needs replacing. Getting a beep to stop on its own doesn't show that th...
RE: finally figured out my boiler plumbing - anyone else find it tricky?
Yeah, learned that flashlight trick myself after fumbling around behind my water heater. But honestly, anyone else think manufacturers could design these things with easier access in mind? Seems like common sense...
RE: my DIY plumbing fix went sideways real quick
Yeah, those drain tools can be hit or miss. I've had a similar experience - thought I'd save myself a plumber's bill, ended up with a sink that sounded like it was possessed every time I ran water. Turns out, sometimes t...
