RE: Touchless taps and other faucet surprises
Honestly, this is why I stuck with a regular faucet. Batteries die, power goes out, sensors get moody... but a good old handle never ghosts you. Plus, way cheaper if you’re watching your wallet.
RE: WHEN YOUR LAWN TURNS INTO A SWAMP AFTER EVERY RAINSTORM
Honestly, I get the “embrace it” mindset, but I just can’t let my yard turn into a swamp every year. Tried the whole “it’s just nature” thing, but after sinking ankle-deep in mud hauling groceries, I started looking at c...
RE: finally figured out my boiler plumbing - anyone else find it tricky?
Color-coding sounds smart, but I’d probably forget what each color means and end up making a cheat sheet anyway. My tags are just old masking tape with faded Sharpie - super high tech, right? Has anyone tried those cheap...
RE: Drain upkeep tips after seeing that crazy news story
Yeah, those enzyme packs are like vitamins for your pipes - nice idea, but not gonna save you from a cheeseburger clog. I swear by my $3 drain snake too. It’s gross, but cheaper than calling a plumber. Once pulled out wh...
RE: When your bathroom sink ends up off-center
Ain’t that the truth. “Universal fit” is code for “good luck, buddy.” I had a similar mess in my guest bath - ended up using three different brands of parts and still had to shave a little off the vanity back. Did you no...
RE: Cracked Sink Dilemma: DIY Kit or Professional Fix?
Right? I fell for one of those “as seen on TV” fixes once - looked good for a week, then the crack came back angrier. Anyone tried just living with a hairline crack for a while, or does it always get worse?
RE: Kitchen sink disaster - DIY or call a plumber?
Totally agree - if it’s copper, that green gunk is like a warning light on your dashboard. I once ignored it and ended up with a mini indoor waterfall... Not fun for the wallet. Galvanized is a whole other headache thoug...
RE: Finally won the battle against invading tree roots
I gotta admit, I’m kinda in your neighbor’s camp. I’ve been tossing copper sulfate down my old clay lines for years - yeah, it’s not a forever fix, but it’s way cheaper than digging up half my yard. Maybe I’ll regret it ...
RE: Burst pipe panic: what would you do?
Had a pipe burst two winters ago - middle of the night, freezing cold, total chaos. Ended up using duct tape and towels until morning. Tech's handy, but sometimes the old-school MacGyver approach saves the day...and your...
RE: Finally won the battle against invading tree roots
Had a similar issue with a silver maple - beautiful tree, but man, those roots were relentless. Ended up costing me way more than I bargained for in plumbing repairs. Makes me wonder if there's a list somewhere of trees ...
RE: Handy shortcuts for finding plumbing info quick
Been there, almost done that... let's just say rice bowls aren't just for dinner anymore. Honestly never thought about using my watch for plumbing lookups, mostly because mine's a basic model. But now you've got me think...
RE: need some advice on plumbing stuff for DIY bathroom fix-up
I've been using a wax-free seal for about 6 years now - went that route after a wax ring disaster that still haunts me (trust me, scraping old wax off your bathroom floor isn't a fun memory, lol). So far, zero leaks or i...
RE: anyone tried sustainable plumbing upgrades at home?
Had a similar thing happen when I swapped out my kitchen faucet for one of those low-flow models. Thought I'd save some cash on the water bill, but after installing it myself (YouTube tutorials ftw), the water was barely...
RE: green plumbing showdown: greywater recycling vs rainwater harvesting
I've been using a rain barrel for about two years now, and yeah, it's pretty much set-and-forget. Only hiccup was when a squirrel decided to stash acorns in the downspout... took me forever to figure out why the water wa...
