Alternating small scoops sounds like it would help keep the pipe from shifting sideways. Do you also use it to hold the grade, or would you check that separately as you backfill?

I’ve tried those cheap moisture meters and honestly, I’m not convinced they’re all that reliable. I had one read “dry” on a wall, but when I cut it open later, the insulation was still damp. Maybe they’re good for a roug...
