What should a whole-house softener replacement quote include?

I’m comparing quotes to replace an existing whole-house water softener and want to make sure I’m comparing the same scope of work, not just the tank and control valve.

The softener is older, and the current symptoms include inconsistent water softness and occasional regeneration problems. Before approving a replacement, I’m trying to determine which items should normally be included:

- Removal and hauling away of the old softener
- Inspection of the existing bypass and inlet/outlet plumbing
- Replacement or modification of bypass plumbing if the fittings or valves are worn
- Confirmation that the replacement includes new resin/media, rather than reusing old resin
- Drain-line changes or an air-gap check if the new control valve requires different routing
- Reconnection, leak testing, and a hardness check after startup
- Programming for household size, water hardness, and any iron in the water
- Labor and parts warranty, including who handles a control-valve or plumbing leak later

The household has several occupants, and the water has measurable hardness. There may also be some iron, although I’m not sure whether the existing unit was sized or programmed with that in mind.
