Honestly, you’re right on track with the pressure gauge idea. I’ve seen folks slap one on at the hose bib outside, then again at the shower arm. If there’s a big drop between the two, you probably have a clog or a sneaky old shutoff valve half-closed somewhere. Ever checked your main shutoff? Sometimes they get bumped and don’t open all the way—happens more than people think.

Yeah, that pressure gauge trick is a good move. I had a similar issue last year—turned out my main shutoff was just barely open after some work in the basement. Felt pretty silly once I realized it. If you’re seeing a big pressure drop only at the shower, sometimes it’s just gunk in the shower valve or even the showerhead itself. Those little screens can get gross fast, especially if you’ve got hard water. Worth popping it off and checking before going down the booster pump route... those things aren’t cheap and don’t always fix the real problem.

Funny you mention the gunk—last winter, I pulled my showerhead apart and found what looked like a science experiment growing in there. Cleaned it out, pressure shot right back up. I’d double-check that before investing in a pump. Those things can be overkill if it’s just buildup.

Had a tenant once swear up and down the water pressure was “broken.” Turns out, the showerhead was basically fossilized with lime scale. Five minutes with some vinegar and a toothbrush, and suddenly it’s Niagara Falls in there. Pumps are pricey—always check for the simple stuff first. Sometimes it’s just years of gunk doing its thing.

- Had a similar issue—thought I needed a pump, but it was just a clogged aerator in the bathroom sink.
- Ended up replacing some old supply lines too, which helped a bit.
- Anyone tried those “high-pressure” showerheads? Do they actually do anything, or just marketing fluff?
