That’s a lesson I keep relearning. I get tempted to poke around, but sometimes it’s just a tiny thing - like a loose wire or a bit of dust in the wrong spot. I switched to a smart thermostat last year and honestly, it’s helped me catch issues before they get weird. Still, I wonder if all these electronics are just more stuff to break down the line...

I’ve had tenants call me in a panic after a power blip wiped out their thermostat settings - one even got locked out of the controls. I still keep an old analog thermometer handy just to double-check what the “smart” system says. Trust but verify, I guess.
