Smart thermostats can be a pain when they’re too clever for their own good, but at least you can check logs or get alerts if something’s off. I guess it’s a trade-off either way.

At least with the smart ones, I get a little heads-up before things go totally haywire... even if sometimes they try to outsmart me and schedule a sauna session at 3am. Sometimes a good old-fashioned manual reset on a traditional dial solves things faster than digging through app menus. Not saying they’re perfect either - just that sometimes simple has its perks.

That’s been my experience too - last winter, my “smart” thermostat decided my living room needed to be 80 degrees while I was asleep. Took me longer to figure out which menu to fix it in than it would’ve to just twist the old dial. Ever had one of these things just stop responding altogether?
