Silicone tape’s been a lifesaver for me too, but I’ll admit, I’m always a bit skeptical about how long it’ll hold. Had a situation last winter—middle of the night, tiny split in a PEX line, water everywhere. Grabbed the silicone tape, wrapped it tight, and honestly, it held for weeks until I could get a proper fix. Still, I can’t help but wonder if we’re just rolling the dice every time we use these “temporary” solutions. As for old valves, you nailed it—sometimes just touching them is asking for trouble. And over-insulating? Seen more than one crawlspace turn into a science experiment because someone went overboard. Sometimes the quick fix is smarter than the “permanent” one, at least in the short run.
