I get where you’re coming from, but I’ve actually had better luck with mid-range filters and just sticking to a strict change schedule. High MERVs can choke airflow if your system isn’t sized for them—seen a few motors overheat that way. Sometimes less is more, especially in older setups.

- Totally agree on the high MERV thing. Tried one once, and my old furnace sounded like it was working overtime just to breathe.
- I stick with the cheapo filters and swap them out every month or so. Not fancy, but my wallet thanks me.
- Honestly, I’d rather spend a few bucks more often than risk frying a motor. Those repairs aren’t cheap.
- Curious—has anyone actually noticed a difference in dust or allergies with the pricier filters? I haven’t, but maybe I’m missing something.
- Also, anyone tried those washable filters? I’m tempted, but not sure if they’re worth the hassle or if they just end up being gross after a while.

Right there with you—seen too many folks shell out for a new blower because they thought a “premium” filter would solve everything. I’ve tried the washable ones, but honestly, they got pretty gunky fast and cleaning them felt like more work than just swapping a regular filter. As for dust and allergies, maybe it’s just me, but I haven’t noticed a massive difference with the high-end filters either. Sometimes simple really is better, especially when it keeps your system running smooth.

I get where you’re coming from. I’ve seen a lot of folks overthink filters, thinking pricier means better for everything. Truth is, unless you’ve got serious allergies or specific air quality needs, a standard pleated filter changed regularly does the trick. Those washable ones can be a pain—if they’re not dried out completely, you risk mold. And yeah, a clogged filter will stress your blower way faster than a “basic” filter ever would. Sometimes the simplest routine—swap it out every couple months—really is the best way to keep things humming along.

Couldn’t agree more about the filter hype. Folks get sold on fancy filters, but unless you’ve got some serious air quality issues, it’s just overkill. I’ve seen more heaters choked by neglected filters than anything else. Simple and consistent really is king here.
