Honestly, props for actually swapping out the anode rod—most folks don’t even know what that is. I always feel like I’m just guessing with these maintenance things, but every bit helps, right? I’ve looked into tankless too, but the upfront cost keeps scaring me off. For now, flushing and hoping for the best...

Honestly, flushing helps, but it’s not a magic fix if your heater’s already got a lot of buildup. I’ve seen plenty of tanks where folks just kept flushing and hoping, and by the time they noticed issues, it was too late for easy fixes. Tankless isn’t always the answer either—maintenance on those can get pricey, and hard water can wreck them fast if you’re not careful. Sometimes just keeping up with the basics is all you can do, but I wouldn’t count on luck alone.

Yeah, flushing’s good maintenance, but it won’t reverse years of scale. I’ve opened tanks where the bottom was just a solid chunk—no amount of flushing would’ve helped at that point. Anode rods get ignored too, but swapping those out can buy you a lot more time. Tankless units are great, but if you’ve got hard water and skip the descaling, you’re just trading one headache for another. Sometimes it’s just about catching problems early before they snowball.

Heh, I once pulled a heater apart and found what looked like a chunk of coral reef at the bottom—could barely get the drain valve to budge. Folks forget about those anode rods, for sure. I’m always amazed how much gunk builds up before anyone notices... wild stuff. Tankless is nice, but yeah, hard water’ll find a way to mess with anything if you let it.

Couldn’t agree more—hard water’s the silent killer of heaters. Folks think tankless means “maintenance-free,” but I’ve seen scale choke those heat exchangers just as bad. Flushing the system every year or two makes a world of difference, even if it’s a pain. And yeah, those anode rods... outta sight, outta mind until you’re dealing with a lukewarm shower and a plumber bill.
