Totally get what you mean about the “polite suggestion” flush. I’ve got the same dual-flush setup and honestly, I’m not convinced it’s worth the hassle. I spent a weekend trying to tweak the float and chain, but it’s still a gamble every time. Sometimes I wonder if these new toilets are just too clever for their own good. My old single-flush never made me worry about backups or whether I’d need to grab the plunger mid-day. I’m all for saving water, but not if it means risking a mess. Maybe some things just don’t need reinventing...

I hear you—my dual-flush has been a bit of a mixed bag too. Sometimes the half flush just doesn’t cut it, and I end up double-flushing anyway. Have you tried adjusting the water level in the tank? I found that helped a bit, but it’s still not perfect. Wonder if certain brands just do it better, or if it’s all just marketing hype...

Honestly, you’re not alone—half flushes just aren’t as reliable as they should be. I’ve seen the same thing across a few places, even after tweaking the tank. Sometimes it’s just not enough water to get things moving, no matter what brand you pick. I’d say you’re not missing anything, it’s just how some of these designs work. At least they’re easy to fix if something goes wrong... but yeah, a bit disappointing when you’re hoping to save water.

I get where you’re coming from, but I’ve actually had decent luck with some half flush setups—especially the newer dual-flush models. Sometimes it’s less about the amount of water and more about how the flush valve is adjusted or if there’s buildup in the rim jets. Not saying they’re perfect, but I wouldn’t write them all off just yet. Maybe worth checking if the float or flapper is set right... those little tweaks can make a bigger difference than you’d think.

Half flush just never seems to cut it for me, no matter how much I mess with the settings. I get what you’re saying about the newer models and tweaks, but honestly, I’ve tried adjusting the float and flapper, and it still feels like it’s just not enough water to get everything down in one go.

Maybe I’m just unlucky or my plumbing is weird? I even checked for buildup, but nothing obvious. It’s kind of annoying having to double flush, which defeats the whole point of saving water. Maybe I’m missing something super basic, but at this point, I’m starting to think some toilets just aren’t meant for half flush to actually work right.
