Had a similar headache with the wax-free seals too. Thought it'd be a quick fix, but nope—ended up wrestling with flange height and alignment issues for hours. Wax rings might be messy, but at least they're forgiving. Curious if anyone's had better luck with specific brands or tricks to get the wax-free ones seated properly without all the hassle?

Tried wax-free once, never again lol. Spent half my Saturday cursing at the flange. Switched back to wax rings—messy fingers beat hours of frustration any day. Heard good things about Fluidmaster's Better Than Wax though, neighbor used it and swears installation was a breeze. Maybe worth a shot if you're determined to avoid wax...but personally, I'm sticking with the squishy stuff.

Wax-free seals can be hit or miss, honestly. Fluidmaster's Better Than Wax is decent—used it a few times and had no major issues—but I'm still old-school. Wax rings might be messy, but at least you always know when they're seated right. Plus, nothing beats that satisfying squish when it sets...lol. If you're determined to avoid wax though, it might be worth giving Fluidmaster a shot. Just keep the wax handy in case disaster strikes again.

- Tried Fluidmaster myself—worked fine, but I wonder about long-term durability compared to wax.
- Anyone know if wax-free seals hold up better environmentally? Curious about sustainability factors here...

Installed a Fluidmaster seal about two years ago—no leaks yet, knock on wood. Wax seals are reliable, but honestly, they're messy and kinda annoying if you ever have to reposition the toilet (speaking from experience here...).

On the sustainability side, wax-free seals are usually made of rubber or silicone, so they're petroleum-based. Not exactly eco-friendly gold stars there. But wax isn't perfect either—it's biodegradable, sure, but manufacturing processes and packaging can offset some of those benefits.

Long-term durability-wise, I've heard wax-free holds up pretty well, especially if your toilet shifts or rocks slightly over time. Wax tends to crack if there's movement, leading to leaks. So far, my wax-free seal seems solid. Fingers crossed it stays that way—I really don't wanna deal with toilet drama again anytime soon.
