Braided lines with shutoffs are definitely a step up from the old plastic, but I still don’t fully trust them—especially behind dishwashers or fridges where nobody looks for years. I keep a checklist and try to peek at every hidden connection during tenant turnovers. Ever tried those leak sensors that send alerts? Worth it, or just another gadget to babysit?

Drips at the box are usually easier to catch and fix, but leaks at the connections—especially those hidden ones—can go unnoticed for ages and cause way more damage. I totally get the hesitation with braided lines; they’re better than plastic, but nothing’s perfect. I’ve actually seen a couple of those leak sensors in action. They’re not foolproof, but if you’ve got tenants who don’t notice small leaks, they can be a lifesaver. Just gotta remember to check the batteries every now and then... otherwise, it’s just another thing collecting dust under the sink.

That’s the thing with those sensors—they’re only as good as the folks maintaining them. I’ve seen plenty of “smart” setups that were dead when it mattered. Personally, I’d rather spend an extra ten minutes checking connections behind the wall every year than trust a gadget. Hidden leaks at the fittings are what keep me up at night, not drips at the box. Those can rot out a cabinet before anyone notices.
