Good call on Rectorseal, used it plenty myself and never regretted it. Tape drives me nuts under sinksβ€”especially older plumbing setups. Curious though, anyone ever tried Hercules Megaloc? Heard decent things but haven't tested it yet.

Funny you mention that, because I've actually had decent luck with tape under sinks, even on older setups. I get that it can be a pain, especially if you're dealing with corroded threads or tight spaces, but sometimes it's more about the technique than the product itself. Rectorseal is solid, no doubt, but I've found Megaloc to be surprisingly reliable tooβ€”it's thicker and seems to fill threads better than some other dopes I've tried.

A while back I worked on a stubborn old galvanized pipe connection that leaked no matter what I did. Tried Rectorseal first, but it didn't quite seal up completely. Switched over to Megaloc as a last-ditch effort, and it held up perfectly. Could've been luck or just the particular fitting, who knows...but it made me rethink dismissing tape or other dopes outright.

Honestly though, every plumber's got their own favorite go-to, right? Curious if anyone else has had similar experiences with Megaloc or if I'm just lucky with this stuff.

I've had mixed results with Megaloc myself. It worked great on some older fittings, but one time I had a brass connection under the sink that just wouldn't seal no matter how much Megaloc I used. Ended up going back to Rectorseal and it finally held. Could've been user error (wouldn't be the first time, lol), but I think sometimes certain products just match better with specific materials or fittings... trial and error, I guess.

Haha, yeah, I've definitely had my share of plumbing "trial and error" moments. Last summer, when I was updating our bathroom fixtures to more eco-friendly options, I ran into something similarβ€”couldn't get a decent seal no matter what thread compound I tried on a particularly stubborn brass fitting. Eventually switched to good old-fashioned Teflon tape and that did the trick. Makes me wonder if certain materials just react differently with these sealants? Anyone else notice some fittings just prefer tape over paste or vice versa...?

Yeah, fittings can be weirdly picky sometimes. I've had brass fittings that just wouldn't seal properly with paste, but tape worked perfectly fine. Honestly, plumbing seems half science, half voodoo... trial and error is pretty much standard procedure, lol.
