What makes a sump-pump backup quote comparable?
What details matter most when comparing quotes for a sump-pump battery backup? The backup pump and battery capacity seem like the starting point, but how should the installer explain the runtime estimate without assuming a particular outage length or how often the pump will run?
I’d also want to know whether the price includes the alarm, wiring, and a test of the backup system. If the existing pit or primary pump isn’t a good fit for the proposed backup, should the quote spell out any needed changes separately?

A runtime figure is most useful when the installer states the assumptions behind it - such as the pump’s expected workload and how often it cycles - rather than presenting it as a guaranteed number of hours. If two quotes use different assumptions, I wouldn’t compare the headline runtimes directly; I’d ask each installer to explain the basis so the estimates are more meaningful side by side.
