Been dealing with some pretty annoying flooding in my backyard lately, and I'm finally getting around to doing something about it. Did a bit of googling and narrowed it down to either installing a French drain or putting in a catch basin. Both seem like solid options, but I'm kinda stuck deciding between the two.

From what I gather, French drains are great for slowly redirecting water underground, and they're supposed to be pretty low-maintenance once they're set up. But then again, catch basins seem like they'd handle sudden heavy downpours better since they collect water quickly and move it away through pipes.

I mean, I don't exactly live in monsoon territory, but we do get some pretty intense storms every now and then, you know? I'm leaning towards the catch basin, but I've heard they can clog up easier and need more regular cleaning. Anyone here have experience with either one? Curious to hear which you prefer and why.

I've been thinking about this too, since my yard gets pretty swampy after heavy rains. Catch basins do seem good for quick drainage, but I'm a bit worried about the clogging issue you mentionedβ€”especially with leaves and debris around. Has anyone tried combining both methods, like using a catch basin to handle immediate runoff and then connecting it to a French drain for slower dispersal? Would that even work well, or just complicate things more...?
