I’ve been thinking about using some old black irrigation pipe coiled up on the shed roof instead of a bag. Has anyone tried that? Wondering if it holds up better or just ends up making the water way too hot...

- Black poly pipe on the roof works, but it gets hot fast. You can end up with water that's almost scalding by midday if the coil's big enough and it’s in direct sun.
- Durability’s way better than those solar bags. No seams to split, and pipe’s cheap to replace if it cracks.
- Trick is to use a mixing valve or just run it for a bit to flush the hottest water before showering.
- Only real downside: in cool weather or cloudy days, it won't heat as well as an insulated tank. Still, for basic outdoor showers, it beats patching up leaky bags any day.
- I’ve rigged setups like this at job sites—simple, low-maintenance, and you can size it up or down depending on how much hot water you need.
