Those black hose coil setups look like a fun science experiment, but I’m not convinced they’d get hot enough unless you live somewhere that actually gets sun in winter.
I’ve seen those coils work in mild climates, but up north they’re pretty hit or miss. Have you looked into thermostatically controlled heat tape? Cuts down on wasted power and risk, though it’s still not perfect. Curious if anyone’s tried a combo setup—solar preheat plus backup tape?
