I hear you on the “leak-proof” claims—been burned by that marketing too. Last year I tried one of those “no tools needed” eco fittings under my kitchen sink, thinking I was saving both the planet and my knuckles. Well, after two days, I had a steady drip and a new appreciation for the old compression fittings. Still, I get the appeal. If they ever make one that actually lives up to the hype, I’ll be first in line (right after I double check my shutoff valves).

Man, I totally get where you’re coming from. Those “no tools needed” fittings sound so good in theory, but I’ve had more luck with the old-school stuff too. I tried one of those quick-connect things in my bathroom and ended up with a puddle under the vanity. It’s like, sometimes the classics are classics for a reason. Still, I keep hoping someone will crack the code on these eco-friendly options. Until then, I’m sticking with what works—even if it means a few scraped knuckles.

Totally hear you, but I gotta say, I’m still rooting for the new stuff to catch up. I had the same issue with a “tool-free” pipe under my kitchen sink—ended up with water everywhere and a lot of cursing. Still, I love that these newer fittings are at least trying to be more sustainable. Ever try any of those compostable sealants or eco caulks? Curious if anyone’s had luck with those or if they’re just another green gimmick.

Tried one of those “eco” caulks last year—stuff peeled off faster than my tenants’ excuses for late rent. Maybe I got a dud, but I’m sticking with the old-school goop for now. Sustainable’s great, but not if I’m re-caulking every six months.

Had a different experience, actually—tried a soy-based caulk on a client’s shower last fall. Prep was key: super clean, bone-dry surface, and I let it cure for a full 48 hours. Still holding up fine so far. Maybe it depends on the brand or just getting the prep right?
