- Cheap silicone’s a pain—learned that lesson after my last reno. The premium stuff actually holds up and stays clear way longer, even with all the humidity.
- Crooked vanities drive me nuts... I’ve had to shim the back legs more than once just to get things looking halfway straight.
- Measuring twice is solid, but I also dry-fit everything before drilling now. Saved me from patching holes more than once.
- Under-sink leaks are sneaky. I keep a paper towel under the trap for a week after any plumbing work—makes spotting drips way easier.

Man, crooked vanities are the bane of my existence. I swear, houses are never as level as you think they are—makes me feel better knowing I’m not the only one shimming things into submission. And yeah, that cheap silicone turns yellow faster than a banana in July... learned that the hard way too. The paper towel trick is genius, by the way. I usually just cross my fingers and hope for the best, but maybe it’s time to get smarter about leaks.

You’re definitely not alone on that one. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve thought, “This’ll be quick,” only to end up crawling around with a stack of shims and a level, muttering under my breath. Ever tried using painter’s tape to keep silicone lines clean? It’s not foolproof, but at least you don’t end up with blobs everywhere. And yeah, that yellow silicone… why does it even exist?

Yeah, painter’s tape helps, but I always end up with some spots bleeding under the edge anyway. Maybe I’m just impatient. As for shimming, it feels like every “level” vanity I’ve installed still needs a tweak or two—old houses are never square. And that yellow silicone... agreed, it’s just wrong. Never looks clean, no matter what you do.

- Totally agree, old houses are a nightmare for “level.” I keep a stack of composite shims in the truck just for this.
- For silicone lines, I’ve had better luck with frog tape than standard painter’s tape—seems to bleed less.
- That yellow silicone... yeah, it stains and looks grimy fast. I stick to clear or white now.

Curious—anyone tried those caulk finishing tools? Worth it, or just another gadget collecting dust?
