Yeah, that dry trap thing gets people all the time. I used to think every weird smell meant a major plumbing disaster, but now I just keep a jug of water in the basement and top off the floor drains every month or so. It’s such a simple fix—kind of embarrassing how long it took me to figure it out. Sometimes the “worst case” is really just a five-minute job.
Funny how the simplest fixes are the ones we overlook, right? I’ve seen people tear up half their basement looking for a “leak” when it’s just a dry trap. Still, I’d argue it’s worth checking for cracks or loose fittings too—sometimes that smell is trying to tell you more than just “add water.”
