When does one bad section justify replacing the whole sewer lateral?

A spot repair can limit disruption and cost, but it may not be the best value if the rest of the lateral is also weak. What should a camera inspection establish about the defect’s exact location and extent before choosing the repair scope?

How much weight should the condition of the pipe elsewhere carry, especially if it’s aging but not visibly failing? I’d also like to know how access for a future repair affects the decision, and what to clarify about a spot repair’s warranty and any sections it doesn’t cover.
