High-water septic alarm, but what clues narrow down the cause?
When a septic alarm sounds, what observations help distinguish a clogged effluent filter from a pump issue or a broader tank or drainfield problem? An alarm by itself doesn’t seem to identify which part needs attention.
Would it help to know exactly what the panel light or buzzer indicates, and whether there are slow drains or unusual odors as well? I’m also unsure how much it matters whether the system has an effluent filter, a pump alarm, or both. What can someone safely observe without opening or entering the tank, and when is it best to call a licensed septic professional?
