"I found that adding mulch on top really helped with moisture retention—way less watering overall."

That's interesting...did you find a specific type of mulch worked best? I've been using fabric pots too, and while I agree they're great for root control, I still feel like I'm watering more than I'd like. Maybe I'm just not layering enough mulch or something? Also curious if you've noticed any difference in pest issues with mulch on fabric pots—haven't had problems yet, but always cautious about inviting unwanted guests.

I've been wondering about mulch thickness too—maybe that's the trick? Did you notice if a thicker layer made a noticeable difference, or was it more about mulch type? Also, any issues with mold or fungus popping up?

I've found mulch thickness does help a bit, especially around 3-4 inches—seems to discourage roots from surfacing. But honestly, mulch type mattered more for me. Wood chips worked best, though I did see some minor fungus pop up after heavy rains... nothing serious though.

I've noticed the mulch thickness thing too—around 3 inches definitely helped keep roots from surfacing in my yard. But wood chips gave me mixed results. Last summer, after some heavy rains, I ended up with mushrooms popping up everywhere. Nothing harmful, just kinda weird-looking. Switched to shredded bark this year, and it seems better so far... anyone else had similar fungus adventures with wood chips?

Had a similar mushroom invasion myself last year after using wood chips. Nothing dangerous, but I wasn't thrilled about the sudden fungus garden popping up overnight... I did some digging (pun intended) and found out wood chips can hold moisture longer, creating a perfect environment for mushrooms. Switched to shredded bark mulch too, and it's been smoother sailing since. Just keep an eye out after heavy rains—fungi love damp conditions, no matter what mulch you use.
