So I bought one of those drain cleaning tools online, you know the ones that promise to clear out clogs super easy? Well, um, it seemed straightforward enough, but somehow I ended up making things worse. Now the sink drains slower than ever and there's a weird gurgling noise every time water goes down. Wondering if anyone else had this happen or if it's just me being unlucky with DIY plumbing stuff...

Yeah, those drain tools can be hit or miss. I've had a similar experienceβ€”thought I'd save myself a plumber's bill, ended up with a sink that sounded like it was possessed every time I ran water. Turns out, sometimes those DIY gadgets just push the clog further down instead of actually clearing it. You might've compacted the blockage or even messed with the venting, causing that gurgling noise.

Honestly, if it's worse now, I'd bite the bullet and either rent a proper plumbing snake from a hardware store or call in someone who knows what they're doing. I know it's tempting to keep poking around (been there, done that), but trust me, plumbing is one of those things where a quick fix can quickly spiral into a bigger headache. Better to get it sorted properly before you end up with water damage or something equally annoying...

Been down this road myselfβ€”DIY plumbing always seems straightforward until it isn't. Renting a snake is def worth trying first, though. Saved me a plumber call once, and honestly, it's not too tricky once you get the hang of it. Hang in there...

Renting a snake can def help, but have you considered the pipe condition first? Older pipes or fragile plumbing can get damaged pretty easily if you're not careful... learned that one the hard way. Maybe worth checking before diving in?
