Wet/dry vacs are handy, but yeah, they can be pricey depending on the brand. Honestly, I've had decent luck grabbing a cheaper one second-hand—garage sales or online marketplaces usually have them. And good call on the plumber's tape and clamps; they've saved me more than once. Another quick fix is those rubber pipe repair sleeves...cheap, easy to use, and buys you plenty of time until the pros show up.
Totally agree on the second-hand vacs, snagged mine off Marketplace for half price and it's been a lifesaver. Another quick tip—old towels or blankets around leaks can soak up a surprising amount of water till you get things sorted...saved my floors more than once.
