I’ve seen tape work, but sometimes it leaves behind a sticky mess or peels paint if you’re not careful. I’d actually recommend using painter’s tape if you go that route—it’s less likely to cause damage. And yeah, keeping the area dry is huge. A little maintenance goes a long way with those sensors.
Painter’s tape is a solid tip. I tried regular masking tape once and it left this weird residue that took forever to get off, and I was worried I’d actually peel up some of the finish on my cabinets. Haven’t had that issue with painter’s tape—plus it’s easier to reposition if you mess up the first time.
Keeping things dry really does make a difference, especially around those sensors under the sink. I learned that the hard way when a tiny leak went unnoticed for a while... ended up with a sensor that just wouldn’t stop beeping, even after everything was fixed. Now I check under there every week or two, just in case.
Also, for anyone dealing with clogs, I found out that using those mesh drain catchers is a game changer. They’re cheap and actually catch most of the gunk before it causes problems. Way better than pouring chemicals down the drain all the time, which I used to do before realizing it wasn’t great for the pipes.
Funny how much little maintenance stuff you pick up after moving in. It’s never-ending but kind of satisfying when something finally works like it’s supposed to.
I get the love for mesh drain catchers, but I’ve actually had mixed luck with them. Maybe it’s just my sink, but they seem to slow down the water flow a lot, especially when there’s a bit of food stuck. I started using those silicone ones with bigger holes and they’re easier to clean, at least for me. Anyone else find the mesh ones get gross fast? I do agree though—way better than dumping chemicals down the drain every month.
Mesh ones always got nasty for me too—especially when I lived in a place with a shallow sink. I’d have to rinse them out every other day or the water would just pool up. Switched to the silicone style last year, and yeah, way less gunk buildup. Still gotta remember to empty it, but at least it doesn’t look like a science experiment after a week...
Yeah, mesh ones are a pain—never understood why they’re so popular. Silicone’s definitely easier to keep clean, though I still think you gotta watch for stuff slipping through if the holes are too big. Still, way better than dealing with that swampy mess every week. Good call switching over.
