Been thinking lately about kitchen waste and stuff, and I'm kinda torn between using the garbage disposal (you know, the sink grinder thingy) or just tossing scraps straight into the trash bin. I mean, the disposal is convenient, but I've heard some sketchy stories about spoons getting mangled or fingers almost getting chopped off (yikes). Trash bins are safer, I guess, but then there's the smell and mess factor. Curious what you guys prefer and why?
I've had my fair share of adventures with both, and here's my two cents:
- Garbage disposals are great until they're not. Lost count of how many spoons I've sacrificed to the sink gods. And yeah, fingers... let's just say I still have all ten digits, but there've been close calls.
- Trash bins are safer for sure, but the smell... especially in summer. I've had tenants complain about odors wafting into hallways—never fun. Plus, fruit flies seem to love trash bins like they're some kind of luxury hotel.
- Honestly, if you're careful (and maybe invest in one of those little mesh strainers), disposals aren't that scary. Just don't go fishing around blindly when something gets stuck—trust me on this.
- If you go the bin route, try double-bagging or sprinkling baking soda now and then. Helps keep the stink down.
Personally, I lean toward disposals for convenience, but I totally get why some folks prefer bins. Either way, kitchen scraps are a pain—just pick your poison and roll with it.
