Does ice do much for disposal cleaning?
I’ve heard ice suggested for cleaning a garbage disposal, but I’m not sure what it actually accomplishes. Does it help loosen residue in the grinding chamber, or is it mostly noise with little cleaning benefit?
Citrus is often mentioned for odors, but its scent doesn’t remove buildup by itself. What’s useful for routine odor control, and is ice appropriate for a typical disposal?

Ice may knock some loose material off the disposer’s grinding components, but it isn’t a deep cleaner and won’t remove all residue. For routine odor control, flush with cold running water while operating the disposer, then let water run briefly afterward; citrus may add fragrance, but won’t solve buildup by itself. Check the disposer’s manual before using ice, and keep hands out of the unit.
