Had a bit of a basement disaster last weekend, water everywhere...ugh. Anyway, found out that using a wet/dry vac along with a couple box fans and a dehumidifier speeds things up big time. Also, sprinkling baking soda on carpets afterward helps with the musty smell. Still feels kinda damp tho, anyone got other tricks or tips that worked for them?

Sounds like you're on the right track already. One thing I've found helpful is lifting the carpet edges if possible and aiming fans underneathβ€”really speeds up drying from below. Also, did you check behind drywall or baseboards? Moisture loves hiding there...might be worth a quick peek to avoid mold headaches later. Did you manage to pinpoint where all that water came from?

Yeah, mold can sneak up on you fast. Had a similar situation last spring when our basement flooded after a pipe burst. Thought we had it all dried out, but a week later there was this funky smell coming from behind the baseboards. Turns out moisture had seeped into the drywall and insulationβ€”total pain to deal with afterward.

One thing that really helped us was renting a dehumidifier for a couple days. Fans are great, but sometimes you need something stronger to pull out that stubborn dampness. Also, if you've got any furniture or rugs still in the area, moving them outside or at least elevating them off the floor can speed things along. Learned that one the hard way after losing a pretty decent couch to mildew...
