Sensors are finicky, especially with hard water around here.

Gotta push back a bit on the sensor blame. I mean, yeah, hard water can mess with anything, but in my experience, most issues are just user error or, you know, sticky notes. I’ve had more trouble with old-school leaky handles than any touchless tap. The real villain is usually the gunk people never clean off the sensor. A little wipe-down every week and you’re golden... unless you’ve got a post-it addiction.

That’s probably true, but I swear I’m wiping mine down all the time and it still acts up sometimes. Maybe it’s just my water, or maybe I’m missing something obvious? I do agree about old-school handles though—had one in my last place that dripped no matter what I did. Has anyone tried those faucets with the manual override? Wondering if that’s worth it for peace of mind.

Yeah, I hear you—sometimes it feels like no matter how much you clean, the sensor just does its own thing. Hard water can definitely mess with them, leaving spots that are tough to see. Manual override is handy if you’ve got folks who get frustrated with the sensor not working right away. I’ve seen a few in restaurants and they seem less finicky, but maybe that’s just luck.

Honestly, I’ve noticed the same thing—some sensors just seem to have a mind of their own. We swapped out a couple at my cousin’s place after the old ones kept acting up, even after cleaning off all the calcium buildup. The new ones were better, but still not perfect. I think the commercial ones get more regular maintenance, maybe that’s why they’re less temperamental? Either way, hard water’s a pain for these things... it gets everywhere.

That’s been my experience too. Hard water is relentless—doesn’t matter how often you wipe things down, it just keeps coming back. I’ve seen sensors that looked spotless on the outside but had mineral buildup inside the housing, which isn’t always obvious until you take them apart. Even then, sometimes the electronics just don’t like getting wet or corroded, and no amount of cleaning will bring them back to normal.

You mentioned swapping out sensors and still having issues. That’s pretty common, especially with residential models. Commercial setups usually get scheduled maintenance and sometimes have better filtration at the source, so their sensors last longer and act up less. At home, most folks don’t have a maintenance routine for their faucets—usually it’s “fix it when it breaks.” But honestly, even with regular cleaning, if the water’s hard enough, you’re fighting an uphill battle.

One thing I’d suggest is checking if your system has any kind of inline filter or softener upstream of those taps. It won’t solve everything, but it can cut down on the worst of the deposits. Also, make sure to power down or disconnect the tap before doing any deep cleaning—seen too many people get zapped or short something by accident.

It’s frustrating when new gear doesn’t work as expected right out of the box. Sometimes it’s just a bad batch of sensors; other times, it’s environmental stuff like humidity or temperature swings that throw them off. I’ve even seen sunlight through a window mess with some cheaper models.

You’re not alone dealing with this stuff. Touchless taps are great in theory but in practice... they can be finicky. Just keep an eye on any leaks or corrosion around the wiring—those are safety issues that can sneak up on you if you’re not careful.
