Just swapped out my old showerhead yesterday, and it was surprisingly easy. Basically just used an adjustable wrench to unscrew the old one, cleaned off the threads, wrapped some plumber's tape around it (like 2-3 times), then screwed on the new head by hand and tightened it gently with the wrench again. No leaks so far, but um...anyone got a better trick or something I missed?
Sounds like you covered most bases pretty well, but personally, I prefer using a cloth or rubber grip when tightening with the wrench. Metal-on-metal can sometimes scratch or damage the finish on the new showerhead, especially if it's chrome or brushed nickel. Learned that the hard way after leaving some ugly marks on mine once... Otherwise, your method seems solidβjust keep an eye out for drips over the next few days.

Good point about the scratchesβwish I'd read this earlier. Quick question though: do you guys usually wrap plumber's tape clockwise or counterclockwise around the threads? I went clockwise last time and it seemed fine, but I've heard mixed advice. Also, how tight is too tight when you're screwing it on? I always worry about overtightening and cracking something...
