Have you tried soaking the showerhead in vinegar? I get wanting to avoid harsh cleaners or buying new stuff if you can help it. I’ve had mixed results with the poke-and-prod method, but a good soak sometimes gets the mineral gunk out without all the fiddling. Curious if that’s worked for anyone else before just tossing it and getting a new one...

Vinegar soak’s my go-to too, especially with older fixtures. Sometimes I’ll wrap a baggie of vinegar around it overnight if I can’t unscrew the whole thing. If it’s still spraying wild after that, I’ll take it apart and check for rubber gasket issues—those can get warped or clogged up too. Usually saves me from having to replace it, unless it’s just too far gone.

I’m with you on the vinegar—cheap and does the trick most of the time. Sometimes I’ll poke at the holes with a toothpick after soaking, just to get the stubborn bits out. Had one showerhead that was so clogged, though, nothing worked... ended up swapping it for a $10 replacement. Not ideal, but still beats paying a plumber.

Ever tried taking the whole showerhead apart? Sometimes there’s a sneaky bit of gunk way up in there that vinegar just can’t reach. I’m always a little surprised by how much stuff builds up. Did you notice any weird smells or colors coming out when you swapped it? Sometimes I wonder if it’s even worth fighting the old one or just grabbing a new one right away...

I’ve taken a few apart, and honestly, some of the stuff that gets trapped in there is just nasty. Once I found this thick orange sludge that smelled like old eggs—pretty sure no amount of vinegar was going to fix that. I get why people try to clean them, but after seeing what can build up inside, I’m always a little wary about reusing the same head for too long. Sometimes it’s not even about the spray pattern; it’s about what you’re showering in.

That said, I know some folks are all about saving money and keeping things running as long as possible. But at what point does it just become a health risk? Like, if you’re seeing weird colors or getting any kind of musty smell, wouldn’t it be safer to just swap it out? Curious if anyone’s actually gotten sick from a gross showerhead, or is that just me being overly cautious?
