I’ve seen a lot of folks chase leaks at the shower arm when it’s really just a clogged or worn-out shower head causing the wild spray. Sometimes the tiniest bit of scale or debris can block a nozzle and send water shooting sideways. I usually unscrew the shower head, give it a soak in vinegar, and use a toothpick to clear out any stubborn mineral buildup. If that doesn’t do it, and you’re sure the arm and threads are sealed up right, it might be time for a new shower head—some of the cheaper ones just don’t last.

Quick question: when you take the shower head off and run the water, does it still spray weirdly from the arm itself? Or is it only with the head attached? That can help narrow down whether you’re dealing with a sealing issue at the threads or just a funky shower head. Sometimes the simplest stuff gets overlooked...

I get where you’re coming from, but I wouldn’t rule out a problem with the arm or the threads just yet. I had a similar situation in my place—did the whole vinegar soak and toothpick routine, but it turned out the teflon tape on my shower arm was shredded and letting water sneak out around the threads. Like you said,

“Sometimes the simplest stuff gets overlooked...”
—for me, it was that tiny bit of tape. Swapped it out and problem solved. Just saying, sometimes it’s not only about the head itself.

Yeah, I’ve been down that rabbit hole too. Thought my shower head was the culprit, but it was actually a tiny crack in the arm itself—barely visible, but enough to send water everywhere except where I wanted it. Funny how a $5 part can cause so much chaos. Sometimes it’s not even the tape, just a sneaky little crack or bad threading. Plumbing loves to keep us guessing...

You’re not wrong—plumbing’s a masterclass in misdirection. Folks always want to blame the shower head, but honestly, it’s usually something less obvious. I can’t count how many times I’ve seen people swap out heads, tape, washers, you name it, only to find a hairline crack in the arm or even a bad solder joint behind the wall. Drives me nuts when people jump straight to replacing things without actually inspecting the basics.

And don’t get me started on “hand-tightening” those fittings. If you don’t use a wrench and check for hairline splits or cross-threading, you’re just asking for leaks down the line. The cheap parts are often the biggest headache—sure, they’re five bucks, but they’ll cost you hours of frustration if you don’t spot the problem early.

Long story short: always check the whole assembly before blaming the obvious culprit. Sometimes it’s not even visible until you take it apart. Plumbing’s like that—never trusts what looks fine at first glance...

Yeah, you nailed it—people always want to blame the obvious, but it’s usually something sneaky. I’ve seen a tiny crack in the pipe behind the wall cause chaos while the shower head looked brand new. It’s frustrating, but your methodical approach pays off. Sometimes you just have to take the whole thing apart to find the real culprit.
