I get what you mean about the house keeping you guessing—mine seems to have a mind of its own too. Have you checked if your shower head’s aerator is clogged? Sometimes mineral buildup can make the spray go wild in every direction. I had to soak mine in vinegar last month, and it made a huge difference. Also, are you on city water or a well? Sometimes the source can affect pressure and sediment issues. Just curious if it’s only the shower or if your sinks are acting up too...

I get the whole vinegar soak thing, but honestly, I’ve seen plenty of cases where that’s just a temporary fix. If your shower’s spraying everywhere but down, it’s not always just about mineral buildup in the head or aerator. Sometimes the gasket inside the shower head gets warped or the threads don’t seal right anymore—especially if you’ve taken it off and on a few times. That can send water shooting out at weird angles no matter how clean it is.

Before you go blaming the water source or pressure, I’d unscrew the head, check for any cracked washers or weird debris stuck in the threads. If it’s all clear and still acting up, try swapping in a cheap replacement head just to rule out a hardware issue. Had a neighbor swear it was his pipes, turned out the plastic inside his old shower head had warped from years of hot water. Quick swap and problem solved... sometimes it’s the simple stuff that gets overlooked.

Had the same issue a couple months back—thought it was just hard water gunk, but nope. Here’s what actually worked for me:

- Took the shower head off and checked the rubber washer. Thing was half-melted and not sealing at all. Swapped it for a new one (like $2 at the hardware store).
- Cleaned out the threads with an old toothbrush. There was some weird black stuff in there, no clue what it was.
- Put plumber’s tape on the threads before screwing it back on. Made a way tighter seal.
- Still had a weird spray pattern, so I just bought a basic replacement head. Problem gone instantly.

Honestly, I think people overcomplicate this stuff. Vinegar helps if it’s just buildup, but if the plastic or rubber’s shot, no amount of soaking will fix it. Sometimes you just gotta replace the cheap parts and move on.

I’ve been down this road too, and honestly, I wasted way too long trying to unclog the old head with vinegar and a needle. In my case, the plastic inside was just warped from age. Sometimes you really do just need to swap out the cheap parts—no sense fighting with busted hardware. The plumber’s tape trick is underrated though; makes a huge difference sealing those threads.

I get wanting to swap out the whole thing, but sometimes a deep clean does the trick—especially if you’re dealing with hard water buildup. I’d just be careful poking around with needles, though. It’s easy to scratch up the nozzles or make things worse. If you do go for a new head, make sure to shut off the water first and double-check for leaks after. Plumber’s tape is a lifesaver, but overtightening can crack cheap plastic threads... learned that the hard way.
