Dripping taps driving me nuts—why is it never a quick fix?

Honestly, I’ve swapped out dozens of tap cartridges over the years, and even the “premium” brands can be hit or miss. Sometimes you’re just paying for a name or a shinier finish. The only real difference I’ve noticed is that some higher-end brands actually have replacement parts you can get your hands on—unlike the no-name ones, which are basically disposable. As for telling if a cartridge is decent before buying, it’s a crapshoot unless you can physically check the weight and build (which most stores don’t let you do). I wish there was a foolproof way, but half the time it’s just trial and error.

Couldn’t agree more about the “premium” label not meaning much. I’ve had a couple of supposedly top-tier cartridges seize up after a year, while a cheap one from the local hardware store lasted ages. The only thing I’ve found that helps is sticking to brands where you can actually find spares—otherwise, you’re just tossing the whole thing when it fails. Ever notice how some cartridges feel way lighter than others? Makes me wonder if there’s any real difference inside or if it’s all just marketing.

I’ve wondered the same thing about the weight—sometimes I pick one up and it feels like it’s made of air, but the price tag says otherwise. Is there actually more going on inside the heavier ones, or is it just a chunkier bit of plastic? Also, has anyone ever managed to get a “universal” cartridge to fit without a wrestling match? I swear, every tap in my flats seems to need a different one...
