I even add little reminders like “wears muddy boots” or “brings own coffee.”

That’s actually genius—never thought to keep notes like that, but now I’m tempted. Quick question though: have you ever had a plumber from an app who actually impressed you? I keep hoping one will show up and surprise me, but it’s usually more “deer in headlights” than “plumbing savant.” Is it just me, or do the apps feel like a gamble every time?

Honestly, I’ve had better luck with the old-school “guy my neighbor swears by” than any app. The last app plumber I tried spent more time asking me where my shutoff valve was than actually fixing the leak. Maybe it’s just my area, but it feels like roulette—sometimes you get someone who knows their stuff, but mostly it’s just crossed fingers and hoping for the best. I keep a running list of who not to call again... and yeah, muddy boots is definitely a note worth making.

- Gotta admit, it’s wild how often folks don’t know where their own shutoff is—makes things interesting, but not in a good way.
- Apps can be hit or miss. Some folks are solid, others… not so much.
- Old-school referrals usually mean someone’s actually fixed something before, not just watched YouTube.
- Muddy boots? That’s a “nope” from me—plastic booties exist for a reason.
- Always double-check licensing and insurance, even if the guy’s your neighbor’s cousin’s best friend. Stuff goes sideways fast if you don’t.

Plumber On Speed Dial Vs. Plumbing Apps—What’s Your Go-To?

Couldn’t agree more about the shutoff valve—seen way too many disasters just because someone didn’t know where it was. As for apps, I get the convenience, but I’ve had mixed luck. Sometimes you get a pro, sometimes you get a guy who’s just handy with Google. Referrals from folks who’ve actually had work done are gold, though. And yeah, muddy boots? That’s a hard pass. If someone can’t respect your home, what else are they cutting corners on? Licensing and insurance aren’t just paperwork—if something goes wrong, you’ll wish you’d checked twice.

- Couldn’t agree more about the licensing. I’ve seen folks get burned by skipping that step, thinking they’re saving a few bucks.
- Speed dial’s my move for emergencies. When water’s pouring through the ceiling, I’m not scrolling through reviews—I’m calling the one I trust.
- Apps are fine for minor stuff or if you’re new to an area, but like you said, it’s a gamble. Had a guy show up once who didn’t even bring the right tools... ended up making things worse.
- Referrals from neighbors have saved me more than once. If someone’s done solid work for people you know, that’s worth way more than a slick app profile.

Curious—has anyone actually found a plumber through an app who became their go-to? Or do most folks just use them for one-offs?
