Saw this kinda funny but also sorta concerning news story today—apparently, in a town not far from here, the city had to issue an official warning after a bunch of residents clogged up their drains even worse by using DIY methods they found online. You know, like baking soda and vinegar volcanoes or pouring down boiling water mixed with who knows what else. I mean, I admit I've tried a few of these myself (the baking soda one always seemed harmless enough), but apparently people were getting pretty creative...and it didn't end well.

The article said that one guy poured some kind of homemade chemical mixture down his shower drain and ended up with fumes so bad the fire department had to evacuate his whole apartment building. Another lady apparently thought coffee grounds would somehow magically clear her kitchen sink (spoiler: they didn't). The city had plumbers working overtime because all these "solutions" just made things way worse.

I get why people try these things though—plumbers aren't exactly cheap, and sometimes you just wanna fix stuff yourself. But after reading this, I'm thinking maybe some things are best left to the pros. Or at least maybe we should be a little more cautious before dumping random pantry items down our pipes.

Curious if anyone else saw this story or has had similar experiences with DIY drain fixes gone wrong (or right)? Seems like everyone has their own secret trick passed down from grandma or whoever, but now I'm wondering if any of them actually work or if we're all just making plumbers richer lol.
