When my dishwasher started leaving everything kinda grimy, I figured I’d give fixing it a shot before shelling out for a pro. Here’s what worked for me, step by step: 1. Pulled out the bottom rack and checked the filter. It was gross—like, “what even IS that?” gross. Cleaned it with an old toothbrush and hot water. 2. Ran a quick cycle with just a cup of vinegar on the top rack (no dishes). That seemed to help with the weird smell. 3. Checked the spray arms for gunk. Toothpicks are surprisingly handy for poking out the holes. 4. Made sure nothing was blocking the drain at the bottom. After all that, it’s running way better, but I’m not sure if I missed anything. Anyone have a trick for getting rid of that cloudy film on glasses? Or maybe something I should try if it starts acting up again?

I hear you on the tablets—they’re definitely less messy than poking around with toothpicks. But I gotta say, sometimes those things just mask the problem. Had a client swear by them, but when I finally checked, the spray arm was still half-blocked with calcium crud. Tablets are fine for maintenance, but if your dishes are coming out gritty, nothing beats rolling up your sleeves and getting in there. Maybe I’m old school, but I trust my own eyes more than a fizzing tablet...
