I've found most apps pretty hit-or-miss too. Manufacturer PDFs are solid, but honestly, nothing beats having a few trusty bookmarked forums or Reddit threads handy. Saved my sanity more than once when manuals got overly technical...

Totally agree with you on forums and Reddit threads being lifesavers. I've lost count of how many times a random Reddit comment or a quick forum search has bailed me out mid-project. Manufacturer PDFs are thorough, sure, but sometimes they're written like they're expecting us all to be certified plumbers or something. I mean, who has time to decode all that jargon when water's spraying everywhere?

One thing I've started doing is screenshotting particularly helpful comments or diagrams and saving them in a folder on my phone. Easier than scrolling through endless threads when you're knee-deep in a plumbing emergency (literally...). Also, YouTube can be surprisingly helpful if you find the right channel—some DIY folks explain things way clearer than the official manuals.

But yeah, apps... hit-or-miss is putting it mildly. Most seem designed to sell you something rather than genuinely help. Glad I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Yeah, forums and Reddit are usually my first stop too. Manufacturer PDFs are great if you're into deciphering hieroglyphics, but when the basement's flooding, clarity beats thoroughness every time. I've never tried screenshotting comments though—usually just bookmark stuff and then regret it later when I can't find the right link buried among 50 others.

YouTube's definitely handy, but sometimes those DIY videos gloss over the exact step I'm stuck on, or worse, skip it entirely. Drives me nuts. And don't get me started on apps... half of them feel like glorified ads or want you to pay before giving you anything useful.

Honestly, my best shortcut lately has been texting photos to a buddy who's better at plumbing than I am. Not exactly scalable, but hey, whatever works, right?

Haha, as someone on the receiving end of those texts more times than I can count, this made me laugh. Honestly, your buddy probably doesn't mind as long as you're not flooding his phone at 2am (pun intended). But yeah, YouTube videos always skip the tricky part—it's like they magically cut away right when things get messy. Forums usually have better detail, but even then, double-check the advice...not every shortcut is a good one.

Haha, true about YouTube—it's always suspiciously neat. But honestly, forums can be hit or miss too. Last time I followed some random shortcut from a thread, I ended up with a mini flood under my sink...lesson learned. Now I usually skim through actual plumbing manuals online—sounds boring, but at least they're reliable. Or just bite the bullet and call someone who actually knows what they're doing.
