Does a like-for-like restroom fixture swap still need an accessibility review?
Replacing a failed fixture with a similar model sounds simpler than changing its location, but I’m not sure when that’s enough in a commercial restroom. If the restroom is accessible, could the replacement still affect compliance even when the fixture stays put, or is the bigger review usually triggered by moving it or changing the surrounding clearances?
I’d expect the answer to depend on the local requirements and the scope of the work. What would you verify before approving a fixture-only replacement, and when would you widen the review to the layout around it?

Keeping the fixture in place doesn’t by itself establish compliance: a “similar” model could differ in dimensions or usable features. I’d compare the proposed fixture with applicable local requirements and the approved restroom layout. If it fits without changing access or clearances, the review may stay focused; if the work shifts nearby elements or affects those clearances, I’d widen it to the surrounding layout. The scope and local rules matter more than the label “like-for-like.”
