When does an older boiler repair stop being the sensible budget choice?

A defined repair to one failed component is a different budgeting decision from paying for another visit when the fault keeps returning. How much weight do you give the boiler’s age and repair history, and what makes you confident a repair is likely to address the problem rather than just buy time?

When comparing repair with replacement, what work beyond the boiler itself should be included in the replacement figure, such as removal, venting or system changes, and commissioning? I’m interested in how you account for uncertainty when the repair scope or the need for related work isn’t clear yet.
