Did you try wall-mounted shelves yet? I put up a couple bamboo shelves above mine—super affordable and eco-friendly. They're sturdy enough for towels and toiletries, plus it keeps things off the floor so cleaning stays easy. Only downside is you gotta be careful not to overload them or it starts looking cluttered again... but overall, pretty solid compromise between minimalist vibes and practical storage.
Wall-mounted shelves are definitely a good call. Installed some tempered glass shelves above a client's pedestal sink recently, and they worked out nicely—clean look, easy to maintain, and surprisingly sturdy. One thing I noticed though, bamboo's great aesthetically but can warp slightly in humid environments like bathrooms. Sealing them properly or opting for tempered glass or coated metal shelves might save you from extra maintenance down the line. Just something to keep in mind...
Good points about the bamboo shelves—humidity can definitely be tricky. Have you had any issues with tempered glass shelves being slippery or items sliding around easily? I installed some glass shelves above a pedestal sink in one of my rentals last year. Looks fantastic, easy to clean, but tenants mentioned smaller items like toothbrush holders or soap dishes occasionally slipping around. Ended up putting down some subtle rubber grip pads, and that seemed to do the trick.
Also, curious if anyone has run into storage issues after switching to pedestal sinks? I swapped out a vanity for a pedestal in a small bathroom once to open up the space—it looked great, but tenants quickly pointed out there was nowhere to stash cleaning supplies or extra toilet paper rolls. Had to get creative with a slim cabinet tucked behind the door, which worked out fine, but it was an extra step I hadn't anticipated.
Overall though, pedestal sinks really do freshen up a bathroom nicely, especially if you're tight on space. Just make sure you've thought through your storage options ahead of time.
I had the same issue with storage after switching to a pedestal sink. Loved how open it made my tiny bathroom feel, but quickly realized I had nowhere to stash extra towels or cleaning stuff. Ended up finding a narrow ladder shelf that fit perfectly in the corner—looks nice and holds everything I need. Definitely agree about planning storage ahead of time...lesson learned the hard way, haha.
Pedestal sinks are great until you realize your bathroom stuff doesn't magically disappear, right? I've seen this happen a lot—customers falling in love with the sleek look but forgetting about storage. Ladder shelves are a smart fix; nice choice there. Another thing I've recommended is wall-mounted cabinets or even floating shelves above the toilet. Have you thought about recessed shelving between wall studs? If you're up for a bit more work (and drywall dust, haha), they're awesome for towels and toiletries without taking up any floor space. Also, curious—did you run into any plumbing headaches during the swap? Sometimes pedestal installs mean tweaking drain lines, which can be a bit tricky if you're DIY-ing it...
