I've been down this road recently and honestly, consoles can definitely stretch the budget more than pedestals, especially if you're looking at higher-end brands or materials. But if storage is a priority, pedestals might disappoint you in the long run—speaking from experience here. I ended up DIY-ing a console-style sink using reclaimed wood for the base and pairing it with a simple, affordable sink basin from a big-box store. It wasn't too complicated, and the total cost came out way cheaper than buying a ready-made console sink. Plus, I got to customize the storage exactly how I wanted it (open shelves for towels and baskets underneath for smaller stuff). If you're handy or willing to experiment a bit, reclaimed materials can really cut costs without sacrificing style or function. Just make sure you seal the wood properly since bathrooms get humid... learned that one the hard way.

DIY can be great if you're handy, but I've seen plenty of reclaimed wood setups that didn't hold up well over time—even sealed properly, humidity and water splashes can eventually cause issues. Pedestals aren't perfect for storage, true, but they're durable and low-maintenance in the long run. If storage is a must-have, maybe consider wall-mounted shelves or cabinets nearby instead? Just something to think about before diving into a DIY project...

Yeah, gotta agree here. Switched to a pedestal sink last year—love the look, hate losing my cabinet stash spot. Ended up adding some floating shelves nearby for towels and stuff. Problem solved...mostly. Just don't underestimate how much junk you hide under there!

Did the same swap a couple years back. My two cents:

- Pedestal sinks look great, no doubt—clean lines, easy to wipe down.
- BUT, storage loss is real. Thought I was minimalist until I had nowhere to stash extra TP and cleaning supplies.
- Ended up getting a slim rolling cart that fits between the sink and wall. Not perfect aesthetically, but practical.
- Agree with this 100%:

Seriously, it's like a black hole under those cabinets...

Did a similar swap at my place last summer, and yeah, the storage thing caught me off guard too. Thought I'd planned ahead, but nope... ended up with cleaning supplies awkwardly stacked behind the toilet.

Might have to steal this idea—does it roll smoothly on tile?
