"I'd pair it with slightly elevated subfloor panels or drainage mats underneath... adds another layer of protection and peace of mind."

Good call on the drainage mats, they're underrated. But honestly, even with moisture-resistant flooring and mats, if a pipe bursts badly enough, water finds a way. I've seen leaks seep through tiny gaps you'd never expect. Best bet is regular inspections and knowing exactly where your shut-off valve is—saved me more than once at 3 AM.

Drainage mats help, sure, but they're no magic bullet. Had a slow leak once behind a cabinet—didn't notice till mold started creeping up the drywall. Regular checks and quick shut-offs are your real friends here... learned that the hard way.

Good points there—been through something similar myself. Couple things I'd add from experience:

- Drainage mats are decent preventative measures, but you're right...they won't stop everything.
- Consider leak sensors behind cabinets or appliances; they're cheap and give you an early heads-up.
- Regular visual inspections saved me more than once. Catching small drips early beats a midnight plumbing fiasco any day.

Glad you caught it eventually, mold remediation is no joke.

Wish I could say the same, but honestly, my plumbing seems to have a sixth sense for when I'm least prepared—usually around payday. Leak sensors sound handy, but I've had better luck just shutting off the main water valve whenever I'm away for more than a weekend. Cheap, effective, and no batteries required. Plus, nothing wakes you up faster than icy water hitting your toes at 3 AM...ask me how I know.

I've been there—nothing like a surprise indoor waterfall at midnight. If you're looking for a simple, eco-friendly backup, insulating your pipes can help prevent bursts. Cheap foam sleeves from the hardware store do wonders...and save energy too.
