- Had a similar situation with high pressure—didn’t realize until the washing machine hose split and soaked half the laundry room. That $10 gauge paid for itself right there.
- I’m with you on copper vs PEX. Copper just feels “right,” but the price is wild now. I do wonder if PEX will hold up as well in 20+ years, though. Anyone actually seen old PEX fail yet?
- The PEX taste thing is weird. Sometimes it’s like drinking from a garden hose, other times it’s fine after a few days. I’ve tried flushing with hot water too, but honestly, patience seems to be the only real fix.
- Habitat store is a goldmine for random plumbing bits. Picked up a brand new pressure regulator for $8 once—still can’t believe it.
- Curious if anyone’s tried those “whole house” pressure monitors that send alerts to your phone? Seems handy, but maybe overkill unless you’re managing a bunch of places.
- Checking pressure every six months makes sense. I probably should do it more often... but usually forget until something starts making noise or leaks.

Copper just feels sturdier, but my wallet cries every time I check prices. I’ve only seen PEX get brittle on sun-exposed lines, but nothing catastrophic yet. And yeah, that plasticky taste is real—my wife swears she can tell every time. Those smart monitors seem cool, but unless you’re running a hotel, I’d rather spend the money on better hoses.

- Totally get it. Copper’s great, but the price tag is brutal.
- PEX does fine if you keep it out of the sun—same here, no disasters yet.
- That plasticky taste? My partner says the same thing, but honestly, I barely notice.
- Smart monitors seem like overkill unless you’ve got leaks all the time. I’d rather patch what I’ve got and call it a day.
- Upgrading hoses is way more practical for most of us.

Copper’s definitely got that “built to last” vibe, but yeah, the price is wild these days. I’ve worked with both and honestly, PEX surprised me—no major issues so far, just gotta watch the install spots. That plasticky taste fades after a bit, at least in my place. Upgrading hoses made a bigger difference for me than any fancy gadgets ever did. Sometimes it’s just about picking your battles...

- PEX is a game changer for quick fixes, but I’ve had a couple tenants complain about the taste at first too—seems to go away after a few weeks.
- Swapping out old supply hoses (especially those cheap rubber ones) for braided stainless made a huge difference in pressure and leaks for me.
- If you’re still seeing low pressure, check the main shutoff valve—sometimes it’s not fully open after work’s been done.
- I still lean copper for exposed runs in basements, just for peace of mind, but PEX behind walls is hard to beat on cost and speed.
- Honestly, sometimes it’s just about what you can get your hands on without breaking the bank... copper prices are nuts lately.
