What should a water-heater leak detector and shutoff quote include?

A leak detector can mean a sensor that sounds an alarm, or a system that also closes the water supply. For comparing installation quotes, should the scope spell out which areas the sensors cover, such as the heater pan versus the floor nearby, and whether an automatic shutoff valve is included?

I’d also want to know whether the valve is compatible with the existing piping, needs a power source, and requires any access work. Should the quote include installation and a test of both the alarm and shutoff, or are those commonly listed separately? What details have helped you compare the cost of a basic alarm with a powered shutoff system?
