Last summer, our town started cracking down on water usage, and I got kinda nervous about getting fined. But honestly, the stuff I did ended up being pretty easy and actually saved me money too. First thing I did was put a brick in the toilet tankβsounds weird, I know, but it actually reduces how much water flushes each time. Then I installed one of those cheap aerator things on my kitchen faucet, which makes it feel like you're getting the same pressure but uses way less water.
Also, I started collecting shower warm-up water in a bucket (you know, the cold water that runs before it gets hot) and using that to water plants or rinse stuff outside. My neighbor said I'm turning into a hippie, lol, but heyβmy water bill dropped noticeably.
Curious what other little tricks people have found. Maybe something else easy I haven't thought of yet?

Careful with bricks though...they can crumble over time and mess up your plumbing. A safer bet might be filling a plastic bottle with water and placing that in the tank instead. Learned that one the hard way, haha.
Yeah, bricks can definitely cause trouble down the road. Had a call once where someone used an old brick and it slowly disintegrated into this gritty sludge...not fun cleaning that out of the pipes. Plastic bottle trick is solid advice though, way safer.
