- Plumbing mishaps are definitely a rite of passage for DIY homeowners. Had a similar experience when I installed one of those dual-flush toilets in our guest bathroom. Thought I had everything sealed tight, but turns out the gasket wasn't seated right. Took me days to figure out why there was moisture around the base. Ended up wasting way more water than I was trying to save.
- Totally agree about plumber's tape—it's cheap insurance against leaks. Learned that one the hard way too after replacing a kitchen faucet. Thought it was tight enough without tape... nope, drip city under the sink. Now I keep at least two rolls handy in my toolbox.
- One thing I've noticed though, some of these water-saving fixtures can be pretty disappointing performance-wise. Like those super low-flow showerheads that barely rinse shampoo out of your hair—doesn't seem worth the hassle if you end up taking longer showers just to get clean.
- Curious if anyone's found a good balance between saving water and keeping performance decent? Seems like there's always a trade-off somewhere...
I've had mixed luck with water-saving fixtures too. Installed an aerator on the kitchen faucet—works great, decent pressure and less waste. But those ultra-low-flow showerheads... yeah, no thanks. I'd rather save water elsewhere than spend forever rinsing shampoo outta my hair.
Totally get you on the showerheads—tried one myself and felt like I was standing under a sad drizzle. Switched back pretty quick. But aerators, yeah, those are solid. Another thing that worked for me was fixing small leaks around the house. You'd be surprised how much water a dripping faucet wastes over time. Little fixes like that add up without sacrificing comfort.

Totally agree—those little drips really sneak up on your water bill. Also found that swapping out old toilet flappers helps a ton. Cheap fix, takes like 10 minutes, and saves way more water than you'd think...
Good call on the toilet flappers—did that last year and noticed a difference pretty quick. Couple other easy wins:
- Check faucet aerators, they clog up and waste water.
- Showerheads too—low-flow models aren't as weak as they used to be, actually decent pressure now.
- And don't overlook outdoor hoses...those slow leaks add up fast.
