Half flush never seems to work right—am I missing something?

Yeah, I get what you mean—half flushes can be a bit of a gamble. I’ve had a couple that worked great, but others just didn’t cut it unless it was literally just liquid. Still, I kinda like the idea of saving water where I can, even if it means an extra flush now and then. Maybe it’s just about finding the right model... or lowering expectations a bit?

Honestly, you nailed it with that. Some of these dual-flush toilets are just not up to the job, especially the cheaper ones. I’ve swapped out a few for folks who were tired of double-flushing every time. Sometimes it’s a matter of adjusting the float or flapper, but other times, it’s just a design that’s never gonna work right. I always tell people: if you’re saving water but flushing twice, you’re not really saving much.

- Ran into this last month—client had a dual-flush that never cleared on half.
- Checked everything: float, flapper, even swapped seals.
- Ended up being the bowl design. Some just don’t have the right flow path, no matter what you tweak.
- Always double-check for leaks after fiddling, though... seen a few nasty surprises under the tank.
- Not every “eco” model is worth the hassle, honestly.

Had the same issue with a “water-saving” toilet I picked up on sale—half flush just never did the job. I tried adjusting the float and swapped out the flapper, but honestly, nothing helped. Ended up reading that some bowls just aren’t designed for low-volume flushes, no matter what you do. If you’re on a budget like me, it’s frustrating to think you might have to replace the whole thing just to get a decent flush. One thing I’d add: after any tweaks, I always put a towel under the tank for a day or two... learned that lesson after a slow leak warped my bathroom floor. Sometimes saving water costs more in repairs than it’s worth.

You’re not missing much—some of those “eco” toilets just don’t have the bowl design to handle a half flush, no matter how much you tinker. I’ve seen a lot of folks waste time and money trying. Good call on the towel trick... slow leaks are sneaky.
